This month, John Stith is our guest. He has written a number of novels in the hard-science vein, including Redshift Rendezvous (Nebula Award nominee), Manhattan Transfer (Hugo Award Honorable Mention), Reunion on Neverend, and Reckoning Infinity (on Science Fiction Chronicle's Best Science Fiction Novels list for its publication year, on the Nebula Award preliminary ballot), Scapescope, Memory Blank, Death Tolls, and Deep Quarry.
He's the author of All for Naught, which collects "Naught for Hire," and "Naught Again" both first appearing in ANALOG. Naught for Hire is an upcoming webisode series starring Ben Browder. Check out his websites at www.neverend.com and www.naughtforhire.com.
John should have details about the upcoming webisode series, as well as other tidbits about writing, techdom and more. Don’t miss this month!
Upcoming DASFA schedule:
October – Hilari Bell & Robin Owens
November – Rhonda’s program (there should be some info on this next month)
December – Christmas party
In other ramblings, Bubonicon 43 had the biggest attendance ever, ending the weekend with 646 attendees (just shy of the 650 cap). George R.R. Martin was a big draw for them this year, as well as their GoHs Stephen Farrell and John Picacio (who was MileHiCon’s artist GoH a couple of years ago). A number of other New Mexican and Colorado authors were on hand for the steampunk-themed con. They had a great t-shirt design this year by John, but I resisted as I have really way too many t-shirts and pick up two more each year at MileHiCon! The masquerade was good as always, with a large number of steampunk-inspired entries.
Programming for MileHiCon is hitting crunch time, with the full schedule due to the program book editor by the beginning of October… that and a side editing job kept me from this month’s Alternate, but I hope it went well. I plan to make the September Dead Dog at Lori’s and (if I’ve got the schedule in) the October Alternate—which is no longer TBD but will be hosted by Paul Ciszek.
Enjoy the cooler fall weather!

Rose
